Rabbi Haberman, Founding Chairman of the Foundation for Jewish Studies, is Rabbi Emeritus of Washington Hebrew Congregation. A native of Vienna, Rabbi Haberman was a student at Vienna’s University and rabbinical seminary when the Nazis occupied Austria in 1938. He fled to the United States where he continued his studies at the University of Cincinnati and the Hebrew Union College. He was ordained and earned the degree of Doctor of Hebrew Letters (DHL) in modern Jewish philosophy.

 

Rabbi Haberman has taught at Georgetown, American, and George Washington Universities, the Wesley Theological Seminary and the Catholic Theological Seminary. He has preached at the White House and represented the Jewish faith in the Memorial Service at the National Cathedral in Washington after September 11, 2001. Rabbi Haberman is also the author of three books, many essays and has contributed several philosophical articles to the new edition of the Encyclopaedia Judaica.
